Originally from Cúcuta, Colombia, Ramon Peñaranda was a recipient of the Costco scholarship, which gives underrepresented minority students the best opportunities to achieve their dreams.
Ramon thrived at SU, adding to the melting pot of world cultures on campus. Now having graduated, he is pursuing his dream of becoming a dentist having found passion and a strong support system at SU.
Students enjoy learning from each other and getting to know each other through experiences, blending cultures and the traditions they start. Like the “Arepa Night” Ramon started with his friends. After a few lessons, they could even make the Colombian flatbread better than he does.
Whether it’s a sharing a recipe for arepas, trying homemade lumpia or playing the sitar, our campus is richer because of students like Ramon.
