The College of Arts & Sciences Social Justice and Community Engagement Award recognizes the graduating student in the College of Arts and Sciences Graduate Programs who has demonstrated a deep commitment to social justice and community engagement. The recipient has gone above and beyond in their service to others, carrying with them the founding principles of a Jesuit education, making choices as a leader for a just and humane world.
Candidates may be nominated by graduate faculty, staff, or students. A selection committee consisting of members of the Graduate Executive Committee and Arts and Sciences Graduate Council will be formed to narrow the field. The final decision will be made by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
Students meeting the following criteria may be nominated:
- Eligible for Graduation in June 2017
- Has demonstrated commitment to the social justice and Jesuit values.
- Has proven focus on community engagement and service to others demonstrating leadership for a just and humane world. Examples of such efforts may be shown through volunteer work, professional experience, community leadership, service learning, advocacy or justice efforts, etc.
