About this Course

This course provides the foundation for SU's vision of perpetuating socially just leadership for a more humane world. Leadership for Social Justice is designed to explore how schools have historically, and in the present day, limited and expanded educational opportunity for various segments of American society. Drawing from the historical and philosophical foundations of American education coupled with a critical reading of educational policy, and reform efforts, this course aims to provide future leaders with a broad understanding of past and present challenges in organizing educational institutions for social justice and democratic life. In response to such challenges, participants will synthesize the literature and research to develop transformational and contextually relevant approaches to educational leadership towards the end of promoting democracy, equity, and social justice within a stratified system of education.
