Endorsement Academies

Endorsement Academies through the College of Education bring Seattle University coursework to the home districts of certified Washington state teachers. Endorsements are typically in a variety of high needs areas, such as English Language Learners (ELL), Special Education and Secondary Math.

For Educators

Designed for educators in the classroom, these endorsement areas meet all the required competencies, improve classroom management and provide the fundamentals necessary to take the WEST-E or NES exam. Current academies for educators include

District Endorsement Academies

District academies developed by the Professional Learning office, in partnership with the Puget Sound Educational Service District (ESD 121), are targeted to teachers in specific school districts.

Dual ELL/Literacy Endorsement Academy at Highline Public Schools

The College of Education in partnership with Highline public schools and the Puget Sound Educational Service District offers a Dual ELL and Literacy endorsement academy for district teachers.

For School Districts

Endorsement academies are tailored to an individual district's needs in any of the endorsement areas offered. The Professional Learning office at Seattle University College of Education works with school district teachers and staff to design academies that meet areas of high need within that district. This allows school districts to help their teachers receive endorsements in high-demand areas while providing an affordable and convenient option for their teachers (training is provided within district boundaries).

Lead teachers who are expert instructors from partner school districts provide academy instruction using curriculum developed by Seattle University faculty. A College of Education faculty member oversees the teaching of all academy courses.

If your school district is interested in developing an endorsement academy in partnership with the College of Education, please contact Julie Kang by phone at (206) 296-5777 or by email at to set up an appointment.
