New Student Registration

Schedules

Incoming students do not register themselves for classes. Registration is done by the Department of New Student Registration and is based off of many factors including a student's various time commitments and housing preferences. It's important to us that you feel comfortable and confident with your class schedule as you make your transition into college. We have included our most frequently asked questions below. Be sure to check out all our important information accessible through the navigation bar on the left of the screen.

What if I earned (or expect to earn) college credits during high school?

Great job!

Whether you have earned just a few credits or an Associates degree through Running Start or similar program, we have you covered. The Schedule Preferences Form will ask you to list your most recent work and we would appreciate an unofficial copy of your transcript to make the best possible schedule. To earn credit a final official transcript is required by Admissions.

What do I do if I have earned (or may earn) college credit with Advance Placement Exams?

Awesome!

Don't delay completing the Schedule Preferences Form waiting for your scores. You will be asked what exams you have taken and any scores that you already know. Be sure to have the College Board send your scores to SU. Exams most likely to affect your first quarter schedule are (varies by major); Calculus, Statistics, English, History, or Language. See AP policy for score/course equivalencies.

I have earned (or may earn) college credit with International Baccalaureate Exams. What should I do?

Terrific!

You must take IB exams in order to earn credit, not just earn a diploma. Don’t delay completing the Schedule Preference Form waiting for scores. You will be asked what exams you have taken and any scores that you already know. Be sure to have the your scores sent to SU. Exams most likely to affect your first quarter schedule (can vary by major)-certain mathematics, any history, any language. Please note that English HL grants 5 elective credits (not UCOR 1100). See IB policy for score/course equivalencies.

I am (or would like to be) an athlete participating in NCAA sports.

That is exciting!

You will have the opportunity to indicate your sport on the Schedule Preferences Form. Athletics provides us with practice times so that we can make sure your schedule meets both your academic and athletic needs. Don’t hesitate to complete the Schedule Preference Form even if you don’t know practice time or if you have been accepted to the team. We keep in contact with the Assistant Athletic Director regarding athletes and their schedules.
