First Year Students

Welcome to Seattle University! All new first-year students participate in our "Summer in Seattle" Orientation and Welcome Week to launch their educational careers at Seattle University. During Orientation, you will receive your first quarter class schedule, meet your Orientation Advisor, find out how to get involved on campus, learn about the special nature of a Jesuit education, meet your classmates and current students and HAVE FUN!

Information for Parents & Family Members

Parents are not required to attend Orientation, however, about 80% of new students bring at least one guest/family member with them. Parents typically feel much more confident in sending their student off to school in the fall having learned more about the resources and programs here on campus.  Especially if this is your first child to go off to college, you would find the program really helpful.

During Orientation students and families are together for some sessions, but then break out into sessions specific to new students or to families. We’ll have a sample schedule posted here shortly, but some of the key information we cover include:

  • safety and security on campus
  • academic expectations/meeting with academic deans
  • what a Jesuit education means
  • career readiness and exploration
  • living on campus

Where do I check in?

Check in for on campus sessions begins at 10 am on the first floor lobby area of the Student Center.  For more details about the program, please consult the Summer in Seattle Schedule.

What should I do if I can't attend?

Students absolutely unable to attend any of these sessions should contact us at We will help place you in a makeup orientation prior to the start of the Fall Quarter (held on September 20th). You are however, still expected to complete the Canvas Course as soon as possible.
