The Talking Faith & Money: Student Forum event is a series of special topics forums being hosted by the School of Theology and Ministry’s Economics & Pastoral Leadership Project to engage STM students in conversation around the theme of faith and money.
The event titled, “Approaching Business Leadership with Love,” will feature guest speaker, Danielle Burd, alumna of Seattle University and former Executive Vice President and Commercial Bank Regional Executive in Washington State for Umpqua Bank. Danielle has 24 years of banking and business leadership/ turnaround experience in a variety of industries and approaches all aspects of her life and business leadership through a lens of faith.
Open to School of Theology and Ministry students, this opportunity encourages participants to reflect on the realities of business leadership and to look at the skills and qualities that are essential to effective business leadership. Participants will come away from the form with a deeper understanding of how the work of business leadership embodies the Ignatian values of love, care, social justice, faith, and empowerment.
Mark Markuly, Dean of the School of Theology and Ministry offers more insight into this forum:
“Since 2008, the economic structure of the United States has entered a phase of dramatic realignment and this has rippled across society, creating new kinds of challenges for everyone but particularly students and people working in faith-based and non-profit organizations or social activism. These forums are designed to help students wrestle with this new terrain, and to learn how to respond more proactively to the financial pressures that impact our lives and the important altruistic institutions we serve.”
