Admission Requirements

Seattle University does not require the ACT or SAT of international freshman applicants. However, these scores do enhance an application, and sufficiently high critical reading and writing scores will be accepted in lieu of the TOEFL.  Please see our English proficiency section below for more information.

Seattle University offers merit-based scholarships to international students. No separate application is required for scholarship consideration; determinations are based on the strength of your academic and extracurricular record. Please see our scholarship page  for more information.

International student applications should be submitted 6-9 months prior to the application quarter of entry to allow for international mail and visa processing.

All applicants must satisfy the following requirements for admission to be granted:

  • Undergraduate applicants: should have the equivalent of a U.S. grade-point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Provide official transcripts from each educational institution attended.
  • Demonstrate English proficiency as described below.

English proficiency

Applicants whose native language is other than English must demonstrate English proficiency regardless of length of residency in the U.S., their citizenship or their immigration status. For information on how to demonstrate proof of English proficiency, please visit our policy page.
