Eduardo M. Peñalver

I am pleased to announce that Shaney Fink has been named Vice President of Athletics.

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that Shaney Fink has been named Vice President of Athletics.

Since arriving as SU Director of Athletics in 2016, Shaney has focused on providing to our student athletes a first-rate, holistic experience grounded in Ignatian values. Under her leadership, the Department of Athletics has bolstered support services in such areas as academics, athletic performance, mental health and nutrition while enhancing facilities, including the recently opened Wright Family Athletic Performance Center.

Our student athletes have responded in the classroom and in competition, earning 3.3+ GPAs for 14 consecutive academic terms while winning 34 regular season and tournament WAC championships. Community engagement has been of equal importance under Shaney’s leadership and our student athletes are integrally connected with organizations in our neighborhood.

Shaney’s guidance and leadership of SU Athletics through this period of progress and success was pivotal in our university being invited into the West Coast Conference (WCC). And as we prepare to officially join the WCC this July, Shaney is the right person to lead us into this exciting new era for our university.

Shaney has also worked to forge connections and strengthen collaborations with partners across campus. As Director of Athletics, she has been a valued member of the university’s leadership team, which makes for a natural transition to assuming the title of Vice President.

I am personally grateful for Shaney’s ongoing leadership and know you join me in congratulating her on this well-deserved appointment.

Respectfully,

Eduardo M. Peñalver
President
