Theatre Scholarships

The theatre program offers scholarships to support majors pursuing their BA degree in Theatre at Seattle University.

The following scholarships are available to incoming students:

 

Artistic Potential Award

One-time $1,000 scholarships are available for exceptional incoming students pursuing a theatre major.

These scholarships are awarded for artistic potential in one or more areas of theatre Eligibility is based on financial need.

Mary Lou and Richard Amen Scholarship

The Mary Lou and Richard Amen Scholarship (up to $2,000) is awarded to theatre majors with a preference for students who also have a demonstrated and continued dedication to pursuing music. This award is renewable, yearly, through faculty review.  Eligibility is based on financial need.

Continuing students are eligible for a variety of awards including:

Theatre Initiative Award 

Students who demonstrate achievement and potential during their first year in the program are eligible for an ongoing scholarship (totaling between $5,000 and $10,000) for their remaining years.  Eligibility is based on financial need. Selected by faculty.

Sustained Excellence Award  

This award of up to $5,000 is given to students who demonstrate continued excellence in the major through class and practicum work.  Eligibility is based on financial need. Selected by faculty.

Theatre Communications Fellowship 

An award of up to $2,000 for a Junior or Senior theatre major to lead the program’s efforts in marketing and publicity.  Eligibility is based on financial need. This fellowship is awarded through an open application process in the spring quarter.

Student Assistantship Awards 

A variety of assistantship awards are available that provide opportunities for students to apply their studies to real jobs and responsibilities within the theatre program. These positions support students who have proven expertise, skill, creativity, and potential in a specific aspect of the arts: theatre costume, lighting, sound and technical direction.

Recipients are awarded sizeable scholarships ($1,000 to $3,000) for their work. Awards are determined individually based on the level of responsibility, time commitment and financial need. Assistantships are awarded through an open application process.

Artistic Achievement in Theatre Award 

$1,000 to $2,000 scholarships, awarded to Junior and Senior theatre majors who have demonstrated excellence in multiple areas of theatre. Selected by faculty.
