The Harriet Stephenson Business Plan Competition 2021

The Business Plan Competition was started in 1998 by Dr. Harriet Stephenson, a Seattle University faculty member who began teaching in 1967. It is designed to help students and alumni in launching new business ventures, including for-profit businesses, not-for-profit businesses, corporate entrepreneurship, and social enterprise.

Albers-SJIM 2020-21 Final Round Judges

In the Albers-SJIM Business Plan Competition, students from Seattle University and St. Joseph’s Institute of Management in Bangalore, India come together in collaboration by creating business solutions for a pressing social problem. Teams are intentionally made of students from both schools to consider the causes, effects, and possible solutions to global issues from a larger perspective.

SU Student Ideates a Solution that Connects Community Resources to the Needs of Students with Autism at the 2021 Jones Idea Challenge

Funded by the Herbert B. Jones Foundation, the Jones Idea Challenge program challenges undergraduate entrepreneurial-driven students to solve real company problems. Student teams work with a team business coach and compete for $5,000 in cash prizes. By the end of the program, the Jones Idea Challenge produces innovative student solutions for business problems. Congratulations to Alejandro Ramirez (Team AR) for taking home the grand prize this year for his idea presented to The Madrone School!

The 2021 Jones Idea Challenge: Innovation for Impact

The Jones idea Challenge

On Wednesday, March 3, 2021, sixteen student teams participating in the Jones Idea Challenge pitched their ‘intra-preneurial’ ideas to 60 people in attendance including 16 student-led teams, 8 company judges, students, coaches, and community members. In its second year, the Jones Idea Challenge is a competition for undergraduate entrepreneurial-driven students. It challenges them to solve real company problems by working with a team business coach and compete for $5,000 in cash prizes. In the end, the program produces innovative student solutions for real business problems.

SeattleU Alumnus Elias Baker, ‘16 and Company Co-Founders Among Forbes “30 Under 30” 2021 List

Elias Baker along with the co-founders of their company Nanodropper, were among those named to Forbes “30 Under 30” 2021 list. Baker earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Seattle University’s College of Science and Engineering, and is the Chief Operating officer of the Rochester, Minnesota-based company. Nanodropper developed an FDA-listed adaptor for eyedrop bottles that makes drops smaller, and according to the company, this reduces waste and cost of eyedrop treatments.
