Area of emphasis: Recruitment and retention of educators of color, math, project-based learning.
Cassandra is a graduate of the SU Master in Teaching program. Endorsed in secondary Mathematics, Cassandra taught middle and high school Math in a project-based learning school. After years of active participation in the Martinez Fellowship Program (MFP), focused on recruiting and retaining teachers of color, she served as the program manager for MFP. During this time, she launched a supplemental program that focused on developing and supporting ed. leaders of color. Cassandra now continues racial equity work as a consultant trainer for Equity Matters. At Seattle University, Cassandra supports the MIT program by coordinating field placements and experiences and advising perspective and newly admitted teacher candidates about their endorsements. Additionally, Cassandra works with the Alternative Route to Teacher Certification program as an instructor and field coach.
