The Center for Change in Transition Services (CCTS) is a Washington State Needs Project funded annually with federal resources from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI). The goal of CCTS is to improve post-school outcomes for students with disabilities in the state. To reach this goal, CCTS provides secondary transition training and technical support to Educational Service Districts (ESDs), Local Educational Agencies (LEAs), and public schools that serve high school-age students who have an Individual Education Program (IEP). The CCTS provides resources and support services to all Washington State stakeholders including special education teachers, directors, students and their families.
The Center for Social Transformation and Leadership is within the College of Education. The work of the center aligns with the college’s mission and core values. A primary goal of CSTL is to create social impact by fostering peer and professional exchanges of ideas, engage in collaborative work and foster learning through shared experiences. The center supports professional learning programs such as specialized courses of study and certificate offerings. Additionally, it provides technical assistance, engages in partnership-based initiatives and conducts research and inquiry to address complex social, educational and community challenges.
Loyola Hall, home to Seattle University’s College of Education, also houses an innovative alternative high school aimed at students who seek a small setting to complete their high school graduation requirements and prepare for future success.
Since its official launch in early 2011, the Seattle University Youth Initiative is lauded as visionary, collaborative and empowering for this Central District neighborhood. In 2011–12, Bailey Gatzert had the highest academic growth rate of any school in Seattle. In 2012, the White House honored Seattle University with the Presidential Award for community service, the highest recognition y the federal government to a college or university for its civic engagement, service learning and volunteerism.
