Each U.S. state has their own requirements for licensure as a professional counselor, and it is important to familiarize yourself with what those are in your state. You can find the requirements for licensure by visiting the website of the board that issues licenses in your state. Not only will you find a list of the requirements, but you’ll likely also find the applications themselves with step by step instructions on how to apply.
Seattle University's OCMHC program is modeled after our CACREP accredited on-ground CMHC mental health counseling program. As CACREP curriculum is becoming the national standard, we know that curriculum meets the degree requirements for licensure in most states. However, we strongly encourage you to check with the licensing board in your state to determine whether our program of study meets the requirements for licensure.

Yes! In your third and last year of the program, we provide you with information on licensing exams (which you might be able to take before graduating as a student in our program), the process of applying for licensure, how to understand the licensing requirements in your state, and how to prepare to apply.
