Transfer Credit Information

Previous coursework must be completed at a regionally accredited collegiate institution. Credits for non-direct transfer degree students are evaluated on a course-by-course basis. An official transferable credit evaluation is provided upon admission to Seattle University.

Transferring Credit

• Students admitted while still attending another institution must submit a final, official transcript to the Office of Admissions by the tenth day of the student’s first term of enrollment.
• The maximum number of transfer credits acceptable for any student entering Seattle University is 135, comprised of 90 lower division and 45 upper-division credits. The last 45 credits quarter credits of any bachelor's degree must be completed at Seattle University. Credit is granted if a course taken less than 10 years ago is graded C- or better (1.5 on a 4.0 scale) has been earned. A minimum of a C grade is required for courses that fulfill major or prerequisite requirements.
• Junior class standing (90 quarter credits/60 semester credits) and the majority of the NCS Core classes will be satisfied with the completion of either of the following degrees: Direct Transfer Associate of Arts (DTA) or Associates of Applied Science (AAS) from a Washington state community college. Other Types of Credit

• Vocational/technical courses that are comparable to Seattle University courses offered as part of a Seattle University baccalaureate degree or courses applicable to baccalaureate degrees may be granted transfer credit as determined by the student’s dean or department chair.
• Up to 45 credit hours of Prior Experiential Learning (PEL), as defined by NWCCU standard 2.C.7, may be accepted for transfer credit by some Seattle University schools/colleges at the discretion of the department chair and dean.
• Several contexts exist for granting of lower-division Seattle University credit for coursework completed prior to admission to this university, i.e., Advanced Placement, CLEP subject examinations, International Baccalaureate, military schooling, and the DANTES programs.
• A student who transfers to Seattle University with a minimum of 60 credits prior to completing a direct transfer associate degree (DTA) may use Seattle University credit to transfer back to a Washington community or technical college to complete the DTA.
