Both are graduating seniors and will study abroad next year

Two Seattle University seniors who will graduate in June have been named finalists in the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. The designations means they have been offered grants to study overseas next year.

Kasey Deems, a History and English double major with a minor in medieval studies, will study history at the University of East Anglia (UK).

Anna Pickett, also a double major in sociology and humanities for leadership, will study disability rights in Nicaragua.

Additionally, Serena Oduro, currently in the Honors program majoring in history, received a Fulbright grant under the U.S.-UK Summer Institutes for U.S. Undergraduates to study this summer at the University of Sussex.

Seattle U has been a consistent top producer of Fulbrights.

The 2016-17 academic year has been a successful one for student grants and fellowship from prestigious organizations. In all, 12 students have received various honors from Fulbright, the Barry Goldwater Scholarship in Excellence Foundation, the National Science Foundation and Princeton University Public Policy & International Affairs Summer Institute.

The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. The primary source of funding for the Fulbright Program is an annual appropriation made by the U.S. Congress to the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
