Sarah Shultz is appointed the first chair of Arts and Sciences' Kinesiology Department.

Seattle University College of Arts and Sciences welcomes Sarah Shultz as the inaugural chair of the Kinesiology Department starting September 1, 2018. Shultz is a biomechanist with a specific interest in understanding the relationships between pediatric obesity, musculoskeletal health and associated changes in musculoskeletal and biomechanical function.

“We are very happy to have Dr. Shultz joining us as the chair of Kinesiology, said Dean David V. Powers. “Her extensive scholarly record and leadership experience will help to enhance and further develop this vibrant program in a high-quality way.”

“I am very excited to join the amazing Kinesiology team at Seattle University and am eager to grow and strengthen our already impressive program,” said Schulz. “Exercise is so important to health across the entire lifespan and there is great potential for our students and staff to maintain the SU tradition of service and engagement, in the community and research sectors.”

Shultz completed her undergraduate degree in Exercise and Sports Science at UNC-Chapel Hill and then continued on to graduate school to study kinesiology with an emphasis in athletic training at Temple University in Philadelphia. After completing a post-doctoral research fellowship in Queensland, Australia and teaching for a short period of time in Virginia, she became a faculty member at her current institution, Massey University in Wellington, New Zealand.

Shultz brings years of teaching experience in kinesiology, spanning several different countries and institutions. She is well-published in her discipline and has a strong national and international reputation in the fields of biomechanics, obesity and physical activity.
