The Seattle University’s men’s and women’s medley relay teams took gold medals on day two of the WAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday afternoon at the Ford Idaho Center, and Olivia Stein won bronze in the 5,000m.

The Redhawks were in full force at the meet, winning medals and qualifying for the finals in many events. Stein highlighted the individual performances with a bronze medal in the 5,000 with a time of 17:23.02.

In the distance medley team for the women, Shannan Higgins, Siobhan Rubio, Abby Wachter, and Johanna Erickson outperformed the rest of the teams and took gold with a winning time of 12:11.88 in the relays. This is an improvement from last year’s team when they won a bronze medal in the same event.

Other standout performances on the women’s side were Rubio qualifying to the finals in the 800m and Erickson and Higgins also qualifying for the finals in the mile run, both set to take place tomorrow.

On the men’s side, the distance medley team of Lance Slichko, Eli Boudouris, Keith Beasley and Matthew Seidel all stood at the top of the podium to receive the gold medal in the distance medley. They won with a time of 10:23.38.

Individually, Slichko, Seidel and Boudouris also qualified to the finals in the mile run, while teammate Steve Brown posted a solid time in the 800m to qualify for the finals tomorrow. Brown also qualified for the 400m finals, capping off a terrific day for the Redhawks.

"I'm really proud of how competitive our men and women were across the board today," head coach Kelly Sullivan said. "Last three events: women's 5k and both DMR races were electrifying. Great way to end a full day of action. Two big wins and a 3rd place finish back to back."

The Redhawks are ready to continue making strides, winning more medals, and setting new records on day three of the Championships, which are set for tomorrow.
