UREC earns five national awards

University Recreation has received five awards from the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA). 

Three SU students have earned a William N. Wasson Award. Named for NIRSA’s founder, the Wasson Award is the highest recognition the association confers on students for leadership and academic success. SU’s student recipients are: 

  • Malia Nakamura, ’20, a marketing and management major, who works with UREC as a marketing manager;
  • Emma Federico, ’21, a biology major, who is a competitive sports manager and outdoor leader and trip coordinator with UREC; and
  • Marine Vasseur, ’20, a biology major, who works with UREC as a facility manager and outdoor leader and trip coordinator.

UREC also received two Creative Excellence Awards, which recognize outstanding accomplishments in marketing. SU earned: 

  • First place in the category of Integrated Marketing Campaign for work on the 2019 Project Positive campaign; and
  • First place in the category of Large Scale Signage for the facility re-brand signage UREC created and installed.

Comprising 4,500 dedicated professionals, students and businesses, NIRSA serves an estimated 8.1 million students, supporting their learning and growth by fostering lifelong habits of wellbeing.
