AthleticsRedhawks Swim Across AmericaNo Author ProvidedSeptember 13, 2021Invalid ImageNo Image Credit ProvidedNo Caption ProvidedRedhawk swimmers participated in the 13th annual Swim Across America September 11–12, helping raise nearly $2,000 to benefit cancer research and clinical trials.The funds will help Swim Across America in research around immunotherapy, gene sequencing and a number of other cutting-edge cancer treatment programs. “Our team has been involved with Swim Across America for a decade and it is a great fundraiser to help with cancer research,” says Seattle U swimming Coach Craig Nisgor. “The money goes directly to the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, which helps to provide care and research in our city and worldwide. By participating in this event, our team helps to contribute to the continued effort of the alliance and we take great pride in being able to do so.” Six different Redhawks swam in the fundraiser: Will Corona, ’23; Justin Kalugin, ’23; Caitlin Caruso, ’23; Allison Plamondon, ’21; Tyler Goodspeed, ’22; and Blaise Acheca, ‘24. In addition to those swimmers, Olivia Lautman, Tessa Oliver and Marissa Chan volunteered at the event, which took place at Swim Beach in Magnuson Park on Lake Washington. Swim Across America hosts more than 600 swimmers and volunteers every year and has raised more than $3 million for the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance since the first open water swim event in 2009.
