Event is Athletics' largest single fundraiser of the year benefiting student-athletes.

Back in person for the first time in three years, more than 300 guests gathered on Saturday, May 21, at Fremont Studios to celebrate Seattle University Athletics and Redhawk student-athletes at the 2022 Red Tie Celebration.

At this year’s event, more than $300,000 was raised for student-athletes. The evening celebrated the many accomplishments and achievements of 2021-22 and placed a spotlight on The Redhawk Experience (TREx) program—the university’s distinctive Ignatian approach to intercollegiate athletics.

Through this lens, student athlete stories were shared, including a keynote address from Tyler Yeh, ’20, an alum of baseball and the Albers School of Business and Economics.

This year’s co-chairs were Suzie Burke, ’63, CEO of Fremont Dock, and John and Sue Verduin, ’83, who spoke about the impact Seattle U has had on their lives and that of their children, Bev and Johnny, who are also alums.

In addition to a live auction and the traditional “Raise-the-Paddle” segment, the evening included remarks from Director of Athletics Shaney Fink and Seattle University President Eduardo Peñalver.
