Capital of the medieval duchy of Brittany, Rennes is known as one of the most vibrant and desirable cities for quality of life in France, with a unique architectural heritage and several major cultural sites (opera, theaters, symphony orchestras, the Parliament, museums, libraries, etc.). Rennes is ranked by l’Étudiant Magazine in the third position of 46 best cities for students in France.
In Rennes students will live with host families and take intensive courses on French culture, history, and language from SU professors as well as faculty at the University of Rennes center for French studies CIREFE. In addition to learning the language, students will immerse themselves in French culture, interact with other students from all over the world and participate in cultural activities around the city and in the region.
At the conclusion of the program in Rennes, students will travel to Morocco to visit partner universities and important cultural sites in the cities of Rabat and Fez, and meet with Moroccan students, writers and artists.
After their intensive training in France and the study trip to Morocco, students will continue their French language and Francophone cultural studies for 5 weeks in Senegal. The former colonial capital of French West Africa, St. Louis today is a vibrant island city and seaport near the mouth of the Senegal River. With its music festivals, art exhibits, and architecture, Saint-Louis combines natural beauty and a dynamic cultural life. Like Fez, St. Louis is listed as a UNESCO world heritage site.
In Senegal, students will explore the capital city of Dakar, before continuing to their studies at the Université Gaston-Berger in St. Louis. There, they will study Senegalese history, politics, literature, and religion, while continuing their training in French language. FIFAA partners with various organizations in Senegal to develop common projects in culture, environment, and education.
