About this Program

Work with world-renowned faculty to refine your skills and carve out your unique path in the music industry through the music program at the Cornish College of the Arts at Seattle University.

Our curriculum emphasizes not only technical proficiency but also creative exploration and innovation, preparing you for a diverse career in music. Unlike most music programs that concentrate on classical or jazz genres, Cornish adopts a “genre agnostic” or “polystylistic” approach, encouraging you to explore a wide range of musical styles, from classical and jazz to contemporary and experimental genres.

With an average class size of 15 students, the music program at Cornish offers a highly personalized learning experience. This intimate setting fosters close mentorship from faculty, who are all distinguished professionals actively engaged in the music industry.

You’ll participate in solo and ensemble performances, compose original music and collaborate on interdisciplinary projects with students from dance, theater, film and other departments. Additionally, you’ll explore experimental music practices and have opportunities to perform with technology.

Through the program, you will gain real-world professional experience by performing and interning at some of Seattle’s most iconic music venues, record labels and arts organizations.

Graduates pursue roles as performers, composers, producers, audio engineers, tour managers, arts administrators and more. The program’s unique emphasis on creativity, adaptability and technological proficiency ensures that you will be ready to thrive in an evolving industry.
