Our mission is to educate students to become critics and creators of communication who are driven to serve the common good, participate actively in their communities, and advocate for social justice. Students are educated in a diverse, equitable, and inclusive context that:

  • Fosters creative thinking and intellectual rigor.
  • Promotes learning through experience and professional formation opportunities.
  • Engages with current and emerging communication and media practices and platforms.

Internships

Every Communication and Media student completes an internship or the practical experience course. With dedicated faculty guidance and a weekly newsletter highlighting current openings, students receive strong support in finding the right fit. 

Our students gain professional experience across Seattle in arts and culture, health and conservation, sports, public relations, journalism, nonprofits, government, and business. They have interned at organizations such as KEXP, the Seattle Art Museum, the Pacific Northwest Ballet, PATH, the Seattle Storm, the Seattle Times, KING 5, and Edelman, as well as leading companies like Amazon, Microsoft, Starbucks, and Boeing. Debate Team

Participating on the Seattle University Debate Union is great training for a future career especially for lawyers, educators, marketers, scientists, social and political advocates, and any position where communicating effectively is important. Our students learn to collaborate with teammates, building a supportive group of friends that share interests. Students from any major and regardless of experience are welcome to participate. With supportive coaching, our program builds your communication skills, allowing you to take on new challenges and accomplish the goals you want to achieve.

Our PRSSA chapter is dedicated to providing members the resources needed for a smooth transition from academic scholars to public relations professionals.
