Support Academic Excellence
This fund directly supports student projects. In 2019, it helped Senior Alexis Taylor create an art installation entitled, “Black among other things.” In 2018, the Sharon James Fund helped Senior Angelica Rivera create a museum display about the appropriation of Filipino food in America for her Capstone course.
This scholarship fund directly supports students while they work in unpaid internships during the school year. Each year, we award $1,000 to one student to offset the cost of doing unpaid work. Past recipients have been able to take unpaid internships at The White House, Pacific Science Center, and the Colorado Springs Gazette.
Money from this fund helped create our Digital Journalism Square, which provided the resources and equipment (computers, cameras, microphones, etc.) for student journalists to do their reporting.
This fund supports the work of our professional communicators in the department. Money from this fund will support the public relations work students do for non-profits in the community as part of their coursework.
