Why Students Choose Albers

Every day, Albers lives its mission to develop ethical, inclusive, and innovative business leaders who lead and manage for the good of their organization, society, and the planet.

Students choose us for these three distinct hallmarks: Leadership, connections, and a belief in business for societal good. We develop graduates who become leaders committed to making a difference above and beyond the bottom line.

  1. Classroom Learning + Real-World Experience

Albers Leads: Academic Excellence In and Out of the Classroom

At the Albers School of Business and Economics, we believe that a well-rounded education combines classroom learning with real-world business experiences.

Albers' programs have consistently made it to national rankings in recognition of our academic leadership. The school is also accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), a distinction held by only six per cent of the world's business schools.

The courses you take are taught in small classroom settings by experienced faculty who publish innovative research and are respected practitioners in their fields. These small class sizes enable them to answer your questions and provide personalized guidance and insights.

In addition to a robust academic environment, Albers has built an ecosystem of programs, services, and extra-curricular activities that enrich the student's experience and build leadership skills. Among them:

    • The Albers Career Center is the only college-dedicated career center in Seattle University, organizing career fairs, webinars, and resume reviews. It also runs an acclaimed Mentor Program that has been operating for over 30 years.
    • The Center for Business Ethics partners with business leaders, scholars, faculty, students, and alumni to critically examine ethical issues in business and the role business can play in advancing the common good.
    • The Albers Undergraduate Leadership Program (UGL) is a unique opportunity for first- and second-year students to explore theory, analyze cases, and propose solutions.
    • Women in Business aims to expand career, leadership, and networking opportunities for women by bringing together the sharpest female business leaders to host events, discuss relevant topics, and create a unique networking space.
    • The Albers Graduate Student Association (AGSA) is committed to enriching the educational experience and social connections for graduate students at Albers by creating networking opportunities.

  2. Hands-on Experience = Distinct Advantage

Albers' experience-based programs allow you to apply what you’ve learned in the classroom to real-world situations. This hands-on experience gives you a distinct advantage when you begin making decisions in the workplace and advancing your career.

Our close association with the Seattle business community enables us to offer internships, mentorships, and an active alumni network, which you can tap to build relationships and gain valuable experience. The programs and resources available through Albers also offer help with job placement, networking, and advising.

With Albers, you also have the opportunity to see the world and learn from it. In addition to Seattle University's Study Abroad program, we have a number of short-term courses abroad led by faculty members. These one or two-week in-country classes have groups exploring a country to learn about its culture and history while also visiting local companies for presentations on international business topics.

Want to make a difference with your education? Since 1947, we've taught our students that there's more to business success than being profitable—it's equally important what you give back to society.

Albers follows the Jesuit tradition of educating the whole person. Our students work to develop strength of character and compassion in all aspects of life. This foundation of ethics and social responsibility goes beyond personal development, preparing you for ethical leadership in business and the community.

Ethics and sustainability are integrated across all Albers curricula. Undergraduate students are required to take a full-quarter course on business ethics. Graduate students complete significant coursework in ethics. Our Executive Leadership Program and Leadership Executive MBA both include coursework such as Building a Vision for a Global Commons, Ethical Leadership, Leading Responsible Organizations, and Leadership for a Just and Humane World.

Below are just three of the myriad ways we encourage our students to make a difference:

    • Since 2011, the Center for Business Ethics has served as a hub of activities related to business ethics and corporate responsibility.
    • Seattle University's Delta Eta chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the international honor society for financial information students and professionals, conducts community service activities including a Low Income Tax Prep program. For over 40 years, Albers Accounting students work with United Way of King County to help individual tax payers file income returns, free of charge.
    • Student organizations like Sustainability in Business and the Business Leaders of Color Coalition create strong communities committed to melding business and social good.
