Camtasia
Discover an advanced screen recording and video editing program faculty can use to create polished instructional videos
Camtasia is an advanced screen recording and video editing program which can be used to record short lectures or tutorials using screen capture and web cam and then edited for a polished finished product. Some of the post-production capabilities include adding a table of contents so viewers can easily navigate the video, and adding quizzing/survey elements to make your video interactive.
SU faculty and instructional staff can request a Camtasia license by contacting the Center for Digital Learning & Innovation (CDLI) at cdli@seattleu.edu or 206-296-5456.

Tutorials
Camtasia Basics
- Learn how to record your computer screen (with or without audio narration and/or webcam), edit, and easily share your video in Camtasia.
- Tip: Instead of uploading your videos to YouTube, you can upload your videos to Canvas Studio for password-protected, streaming playback by your students.
- Note: Uploading videos to Canvas allows you to easily create auto-generated captions, then review and edit your video's auto-generated captions in order to 1) provide accessibility accommodations for students 2) help students access your videos when they aren't able to listen to your narration (i.e.: in a public space without headphones) 3) provide support for non-native English speakers.
Advanced Editing
- Add Annotations, Callouts and Titles (emphasize part of the screen along with narration)
- Zoom and Pan (make small text on the screen easier to read)
- Markers and Interactive Table of Contents (create a table of contents to let viewers jump to a section of your video)
- Quizzing and Surveys
- SCORM-enabled videos allow you to track student quiz submissions
- How do I import SCORM files as an assignment? (instructions for uploading into Canvas and syncing with gradebook)
- Tip: instead of creating a video quiz in Camtasia, alternatively you can create a simple video quiz in Canvas.
- While Camtasia provides more types of quiz questions than the Canvas tool, both Camtasia and Canvas video quizzes can be integrated with the Canvas gradebook.
