CEIE's Discerning Leadership Certificate (CDLC) is an immersive, intensive residential program experience designed for individuals who are actively providing leadership within their unique context.

2025-26 Discerning Leadership Certificate

The CEIE Discerning Leadership Certificate (CDLC) is a residential program experience designed for individuals who are actively providing leadership–whether in ministry, religious nonprofit, civic, or other public spheres. Rooted in the Ignatian tradition of discernment, the certificate is guided by experienced faculty and leadership coaches within a 6:1 participant-to-coach cohort model. Its focuses are:

  • Spiritual and Values Formation

  • Leadership in the Public Square

  • Leadership Practice

Program Logistics 

  • Lodging available at Bellarmine Hall on the Seattle University campus
  • All meals provided throughout certificate week
  • Sessions held in a private, dedicated on-campus space
  • Parking included for all students

Cohort Model

Rooted in the Ignatian tradition of discernment, the certificate is guided by experienced faculty and leadership coaches within a 6:1 participant to coach cohort model. Participants  journey through a dynamic curriculum centered on three core themes:

  • Spiritual and Values Formation: Deepen your inner life and connect leadership to purpose, identity, and values clarity.
  • Leadership Practice: Strengthen your capacity to lead with integrity, presence, and resilience in complex, evolving environments.
  • Leadership in the Public Square: Engage critically and compassionately with today’s pressing societal challenges through a lens of justice, service, discernment, and transformation.
