As an exhibiting artist, his processes include photo books, zines, net art, interactive video installations, multimedia performances, and more traditional gallery exhibitions. Through his Unseen Press, Mouton’s limited-edition photo books have been selected for collections internationally, including MoMA Library, NYC; the Getty Research Institute, LA; and the Kunst Bibliothek, Berlin. Unseen Press is also represented by Vamp & Tramp, Booksellers, LLC. Mouton’s zines are featured in the small press sections of notable bookstores including Quimbies in Chicago; RE: Insurgo in Berlin; and Elliot Bay Books in Seattle. Mouton’s electronic media has been exhibited at SFcamerawork, USA; the Istanbul Contemporary Art Museum, Turkey; the Walker Art Center, USA; SpringgunPress issue 5, USA; Fylkingen Hz Journal #9, Sweden; BlueOrange, v.7, Canada; and the E-Poetry Festival [2013], UK; among international venues.
Having been a Fulbright Scholar to Berlin where he lived on and off throughout the 90’s, Mouton’s recent work returns focus to the former Eastern Europe. This time traveling through Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, and Latvia in 2016, Mouton photographed with a combination of both medium and large format B&W and also color digital cameras. His current focus is on the remains of societies that Hitler and Stalin’s bloody reign during the 30’s – 40’s had ideologically “reorganized”, as well as the architectural developments that sprang up between 1950-89 in Eastern Europe that reflect the subsequent utopian socialist vision. Mouton is at work on an artists’ book that will be housed in a large, gravestone-shaped box, bringing together darkroom prints, digital booklets, texts and audio. This limited-edition work will be presented first at the 2019 CODEX VII International Book Fair & Symposium.
