Biography
Jim began his career in Hong Kong and was a senior designer at several international agencies, including Foote, Cone & Belding, and Burson-Marsteller, where he was the lead creative authority for their international team. He received his MFA in visual communication from the University of Washington, and a BFA in graphic design from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Prior to Daikin, he served as a product designer, senior art director, interactive designer, UI/UX, and visual designer for clients that included Acer, Amazon, American Express, Daikin, Nike, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Seattle Art Museum, T-Mobile, Space Needle, Safeco, iStockphoto, Oregon Health & Science University, HTC, Expedia, Microsoft Store, Xbox, and WatchGuard.
He has worked on a wide range of projects for advertising, publishing, technology, and education concerns and has received numerous awards from such organizations as Communication Arts, Creativity Annual, the American Advertising Federation (Addy), the Telly Awards, HOW, and Print. Since 2004, Jim has been a design instructor at the Art Institute of Seattle and Sanford-Brown College—molding hundreds of America’s future designers into type geeks who will exclaim at any given time, “That kerning is terrible!”
