Jon Gould holds a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Washington Evans School of Public Affairs and brings over 30 years of public policy advocacy, organizational leadership, and nonprofit management experience. He is currently the Community Impact and Government Relations Officer at Akin (formerly Childhaven). Previously, Jon served as Deputy Director of the Children's Alliance for 22 years, where he coordinated the organization's public policy, mobilization, communications, and lobbying. He began teaching at Seattle University in 2012.
Jon has an extensive history of community involvement in economic and racial justice, human service, and children/family issues. His strategic leadership has contributed to major state policy achievements for families. Among the policies Jon has helped to craft and advocate for are laws that created Apple Health for Kids, Washington children’s health coverage program, and Washington’s Early Start Act that increased access to high quality early learning programs.
Jon was born in Chicago, Illinois and raised in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. In 1989, he graduated from Cornell University with a BA in history. In the summer of 1990, he moved to Seattle and began working as a community organizer with the Seattle Tenants Union.
Jon teaches NPLR 5410 Nonprofit Policy and Advocacy.
