Biography
Dr. Kevin P. Thompson is an experienced higher education leader recognized for his commitment to advancing equitable access, impactful discovery, and transformational innovation in higher education.
In November 2022, Kevin was appointed associate dean for advancement in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Washington. Kevin serves as the College’s chief advancement officer responsible for the strategic management and growth of its integrated advancement (marketing & communications + development + engagement) program. In this capacity, he provides leadership and vision for an office of more than 75 development, advancement services, marketing & communications, constituent engagement, and business operations professionals, and serves on the dean’s executive leadership committee as well as University Advancement’s extended leadership team. In the decade before joining the University of Washington, Kevin served in advancement leadership roles at UNC Wilmington, NC State University, and Northeastern University.
Kevin is also the founder of Thompson Philanthropic Consulting, serving as a thought partner and strategic advisor to the leaders of educational, arts, cultural, religious, healthcare, and social service nonprofits on philanthropy and organizational leadership and effectiveness.
A native of coastal North Carolina, Kevin holds a Doctorate in Education from Vanderbilt University as well as a Master of Public Administration and graduate certificate in nonprofit management from NC State University. He continues to serve on the Dean’s Advisory Board for NC State's College of Humanities and Social Sciences. In his personal life, Kevin enjoys playing piano, exploring the Seattle region with his dog, and volunteering with various community organizations.
