Biography
Dr. Niranjan Chipalkatti (Chips) is a Professor of Accounting at Seattle University. Dr. Chipalkatti earned his Ph. D from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and his B. Com. from the University of Mumbai. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and serves as the Founder Chair of the Seattle Chapter of ICAI. Earlier in his career in India, Dr. Chipalkatti worked as an auditor at A.F. Fergusons and as an accounting manager at Hindustan Unilever. For a brief time, he also ran a valuation consultancy business in Ohio.
Dr. Chipalkatti’s research focuses on the role of accounting information in reducing information asymmetry and building transparency in capital markets. He has also worked on issues related to banking, ESG, capital flows to countries, carbon policy and pricing, entrepreneurship and economic growth. His research has been published in the Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Risk Finance, Journal of Applied Finance, Journal of International Accounting Research,Annals of Public and Cooperative Economics, Journal of Developing Areas, Oxford Development Studies, The CPA Journal,and theBusiness Valuation Reviewamong others. He teaches financial accounting courses at various levels and a specialized class that deals with the fair valuation of intangible assets for financial reporting. His hobbies include learning Hindustani classical music on the sarod, making amaro, gardening, reading books, hiking and travelling.
