Biography
I grew up in western Massachusetts, where two fantastic high school teachers introduced me to Latin and the ancient Roman world. I majored in Classics at Amherst College and spent a semester abroad in Rome (the ICCS, better known as the Centro), which exposed me to archaeology and history in an immediate and compelling way. So while I still enjoyed ancient languages and literature, I started to work and volunteer on archaeological projects, and went on to study history and archaeology at the University of California, Berkeley, where I received my Ph.D. in 2014. My interests lie at the intersection of human mobility (e.g., migration, displacement, etc.) and group dynamics (e.g., citizenship, belonging, etc.) in the ancient Mediterranean, and my research has focused on Sicily as a site of particularly significant interactions. I have worked extensively with the archaeological excavations at Morgantina in Sicily, and I am currently preparing a book manuscript on Sicilian mobility and citizenship in the fourth and third centuries BCE. I joined the History department at Seattle University in 2017.
