Biography

Dr. Shiny Abraham is an Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Seattle University. Her disciplinary research efforts focus on the application of Internet of Things (IoT) technology towards remote environmental monitoring, with a focus on resource-constrained environments. Her other research interests include optimization in wireless communication systems, cognitive radio networks, sustainability, community-engaged scholarship, and engineering education research. Dr. Abraham’s commitment to sustainability and community-engaged education is supported by professional development through Santa Clara University’s Center for Sustainability, where she earned certificates in Pedagogy for Sustainability and Justice, Environmental Justice and Integral Ecology, and Sustainability Across the Curriculum. She is a faculty affiliate of the Center for Social Transformation and Leadership (CSTL) at SU. Dr. Abraham is a member of the IEEE and ASEE, and she serves in leadership roles within both organizations.

Dr. Abraham’s research and educational initiatives have been supported through funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Lemelson Foundation, the W. M. Keck Foundation, ASEE’s Engineering for One Planet (EOP) program, and university research and community-engagement grants, where she has served as PI or Co-PI on multidisciplinary projects spanning IoT, sustainability, engineering education, and, most recently, critical thinking and AI-enhanced learning.

Dr. Abraham received her Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2012 from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA, and B.E. degree in Telecommunication Engineering from Visveswaraiah Technological University (VTU), India in 2007.
