Need to know what to do in case of an urgent medical or mental health issue? Here’s a list of where to go or who to call in case of an emergency.
Life-Threatening Medical Conditions
Call 911 for all emergencies
- For on-campus emergencies, also call Public Safety at 1-206-296-5911
Examples of life-threatening conditions include difficulty breathing, unconsciousness or unresponsiveness (e.g., drug or alcohol overdose), major injury (e.g., open chest wound with trouble breathing; spinal or neck injury with loss of sensation or motion; obvious fracture, especially with visible bone).
Urgent Medical Conditions
Although the example conditions may not be life-threatening, get a medical evaluation as soon as possible.
Some examples are significant pain (e.g., in the chest, abdomen, head, neck, or ear, especially with fever), asthma (when not responding to usual medications), urinary infection (especially with fever or back pain), possible fracture or dislocation, any injury with significant pain or swelling, laceration (a cut requiring stitches), or major bee sting reaction (hives or swelling on, for example, your whole arm or leg).
Mental Health Emergency
If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, 24-hour assistance is available by calling:
- King County Crisis Connections at 866-427-4747
- Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 9-8-8, can call or text
- Seattle Police at 911
- Public Safety at 206-296-5911

TalkNow
TalkNow is an on-demand 24/7 mental health resource offered by TimelyCare, to talk about anything at any time. Students must register through the TimelyCare app or website and can expect to spend 3-5 minutes registering before utilizing the service for the first time. Once connected, students can expect to speak with a professional within 3-7 minutes. The TalkNow service is available in all 50 states and internationally to Seattle University students.
TalkNow professionals will help students with a range of topics including feeling down, stress & anxiety, relationship concerns, and suicidal thoughts, among other concerns. Students can schedule up to 12 counseling visits a year with a licensed mental health professional at a time that works for you, including nights and weekends.
Seattle University has partnered with TimelyCare to offer students 24/7 access to medical and mental healthcare.
