Seattle University College of Education is hosting two events with Dr. Gholdy Muhammad, one of the most influential university-based scholars in America and best-selling author of Cultivating Genuis: An Equity Framework for Culturally and Historically Responsive Literacy and her latest, Unearthing Joy: A Guide to Culturally and Historically Responsive Teaching and Learning. The events, Friday, February 24, and Tuesday, March 7 at Pigott Auditorium, are free and open to the public.
Dr. Muhammad’s historically and culturally responsive education model has been adopted by school districts nationwide.
“The College of Education is so excited to welcome Dr. Muhammad to SU and to our greater Seattle community. Not only is she a trailblazer in curriculum and teaching who creates more just and equitable educational institutions, her groundbreaking scholarship and personhood is an embodiment of the genius, joy and justice that all students, teachers and families deserve,” says Dean Cynthia Dillard.
The College of Education prides itself on preparing students not only for educational careers but also for leadership for a just and humane world. That ethos permeates the education students receive in the college’s 11 graduate programs and numerous certificate and continuing education options. Its alumni work as administrators, teachers, counselors, school psychologists, principals, superintendents, deans, community college faculty, corporate trainers and human resources professionals, college and university presidents and business and nonprofit executives.
