Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez Coming to SU
U.S. Representative Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, who shocked the political world by defeating a high-profile challenger in the 2022 midterms, is the latest guest of Seattle University's Institute for Public Service “Conversations” series. The event, Friday, February 24, is free and open to the public.
Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez, sworn into Congress last month, represents the 3rd Congressional District, which historically elects a Republican for this seat, making her win all the more unexpected.
What: Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez at Seattle University.
When: Friday, 3-4 p.m.
Where: Art and Dorothy Oberto Commons, Sinegal Center for Science and Innovation.
“Meet the Most Interesting New Politician in America: Washington’s Own U.S. Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez,” will cover how "MGP" was able to draw voters in Washington's 3rd Congressional District to her campaign, urban Democrats and rural Republicans alike, and her priorities in Congress. Washington's 3rd Congressional District includes the southern most portion of western Washington and includes the counties of Lewis, Pacific, Wahkiakum, Cowlitz, Clark and Skamania, along with a small portion of Thurston.
“We are thrilled to have a chance to hear from the woman who surprised everybody by speaking common sense to voters,” says Joni Balter, Institute of Public Service Professional in Residence who, along with Professor Larry Hubbell, will moderate the discussion.
The Institute of Public Service, housed within the College of Arts and Sciences, educates students for positions of leadership in government and nonprofit sectors. Its academic offerings include a Master of Public Administration, a Graduate Certificate in Public Administration, a Bachelor of Arts in Public Affairs and a Minor in Nonprofit and Public Administration.
