Current UW Associate Dean of Academic Affairs joins Seattle University on July 1.
Seattle University didn’t have to look far to find the right fit for its new Vice Provost for Graduate, Online and Professional Education and Dean of Graduate Education. Dr. Kima Cargill, current Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at the University of Washington’s Graduate School, will make the move a few miles up to SU’s Capitol Hill campus to lead Seattle University’s graduate programs.
“Dr. Cargill brings extensive experience and a deep commitment to advancing graduate and professional programs,” Seattle University Provost Shane P. Martin says. “She is a national leader in graduate education innovations and has a strong track record of fostering innovative educational strategies and supporting student success.”
Dr. Cargill begins at Seattle University on July 1.
At the UW Dr. Cargill oversees the academic affairs of more than 300 graduate degrees across the university’s Seattle, Tacoma and Bothell campuses. She leads the Graduate School’s strategic academic planning and industry relations, development and administration of graduate degrees and certificates, supervision of graduate enrollment management and oversight of academic program reviews. Under her leadership, UW developed and launched stackable, incremental and micro credentials that allow students to earn graduate certificates incrementally and combine them to equal a master’s degree.
Dr. Cargill earned her PhD in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin, where she also received her MA in Psychology and BA in Philosophy and Government. In addition to her appointment as Associate Dean of Academic Program at UW’s Graduate School, Dr. Cargill is a Professor of Psychology in the School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences and has authored three books on the psychology of food and eating.
She says she is looking forward to collaborating with Seattle University’s talented faculty, staff and students to drive forward a shared vision for a vibrant, inclusive educational community.
“I am deeply honored to join Seattle University as Vice Provost and Dean,” Dr. Cargill says. “SU’s commitment to academic excellence and Ignatian principles of education are truly inspiring. Together, we will build on the strong foundation of excellence and innovation in graduate education already in place, expand opportunities for our students and enhance their academic and professional journeys.”
