Annual 24-hour fundraising event helps support students, programs, departments and more across campus.
Something big is happening on Tuesday, March 4—Seattle U Gives. This 24-hour online giving event is your opportunity to support the Redhawk causes you care about most. Here are the top five things to know about this year’s event:
1. What is Seattle U Gives?
Seattle U Gives is Seattle University’s annual 24-hour online day of giving, celebrating our community’s generosity and impact. Now in its ninth year, this tradition—organized by University Advancement—helps support the university’s growth and future initiatives.
During this 24-hour period, alumni, students, parents, friends, faculty and staff come together to invest in the causes that matter most to them. Seattle U Gives raises hundreds of thousands of dollars for SU-specific goals—last year’s event surpassed $1 million.
2. What can I support during Seattle U Gives?
There are hundreds of funds to support. No matter the size, your gift can make a difference in areas such as the SU Fund, scholarships, the Redhawk Club, the Seattle University Youth Initiative, Athletics, Campus Ministry, specific schools and colleges and more. This year, the spotlight is on three key priorities:
- The Seattle University Fund is a vital resource that sustains the university’s mission by providing immediate support where it’s needed most. Gifts to this fund enhance such things as student services, scholarships, classroom equipment and recreational activities.
- The Annual Scholarship Fund ensures a high-caliber education remains accessible to deserving students by keeping college affordable and providing financial aid to those who need it most. Offering generous aid packages allows SU to attract students committed to making a difference in their professions and communities.
- The WCC Competitive Excellence Fund benefits every Redhawk student athlete by providing essential resources such as cutting-edge athletic technology, advanced nutrition programs, enhanced recruiting opportunities and comprehensive wellness services. This fund is designed to create a championship culture and help Redhawk athletes thrive in a competitive environment.
3. What is a challenge?
You can’t spell "fund" without "fun,” which is why Seattle U Gives features a series of giving challenges.
Major donors, sponsors and university groups pledge funds that can be unlocked when a certain number of gifts are made to a specific area. This means your gift could double, triple, even quadruple in impact.
This year, you can also participate in the largest challenge in Seattle U Gives history—800 alumni gifts to any fund will unlock an additional $150,000. Check the Seattle U Gives website for more details on all the challenges benefiting the causes you care about most.
Seattle U Gives encourages gifts of all sizes. Every donation matters, especially when we’re all working together to reach a challenge goal.
4. How else can I support Seattle U Gives?
Become a SU-pporter, an online ambassador who helps amplify Seattle U Gives through their social networks. Whether you’re a student, alum, parent, faculty or staff, you’re invited to join us. (Participants will be provided a digital toolkit with everything needed to spread the word.)
SU-pporters “like,” comment and post about the event on social media, sharing their love for SU and championing their favorite causes. SU-pporters are encouraged to make it their own, make it fun and make it personal. It’s also an excellent opportunity to reconnect with former classmates and encourage them to participate.
5. What happens during the big event on March 4?
Join the virtual party online or attend the Seattle U Gives festivities on campus!
This year, we’re bringing the excitement to campus with various fun activities throughout the day, including a Seattle U Gives celebration open to the entire Seattle University community. We’ll also share live fundraising updates on our website and social media so the entire SU community can follow along—no matter where you are in the world.
Can’t wait until March 4? Visit the Seattle U Gives to explore giving opportunities or make an early gift. (If you don’t see a specific fund you’d like to support on our website, select “Other” and write in the name or description of the cause you’d like to donate to.)
