Dear Sophia Spring Quarter Applicants,

I am sad to inform you that the University has just made the decision to suspend education abroad programming for the rest of the academic year, which includes the Spring Quarter in Sophia University. I know how much effort and diligence in completing the application you made and can imagine your disappointment. This university decision is based on the ongoing health pandemic and the US Department of State Travel Advisories. We know that for some of you, this was already a deferment from last Spring or planning to graduating this Spring 2021, and we are sincerely sorry that you’re not able to include study abroad during your time at SU.

After you take some time to process this information, please work with your academic advisors to determine which SU courses you should take in SQ21. Additionally, please connect with us, your Education Abroad Advisor, Kirsti Ruud or Jenn Chan, if you would like to discuss education abroad options for next academic year. If you wish to defer participation to Academic Year 2021/22, you will need to re-apply through Education Abroad by the February 1, 2021 deadline for consideration. Our applications are currently open on Horizons. An adjustment we made to the Exchange application, is that there will no longer be recommendations needed in the Horizons application, and we can reuse your recommendations you already submitted for Sophia’s application should you be nominated again. When reviewing applications, EAO will take into consideration that you had been nominated for Academic Year 2020/21.

Take care and stay healthy.

Warm regards,

Jenn and Kirsti
