Congratulations on your graduation, Class of 2022, and welcome to GOLD!

My name is John Fulmer and I serve as the president of the Seattle University GOLD (Graduates of the Last Decade) Council. We’re a group of alumni volunteers who aim to provide you with opportunities to stay connected with alumni and the university through community gatherings, service opportunities and professional development. Additionally, we are organized to support your transition from the classroom to the workforce. As you move into this next chapter of your life, remember that you are now part of the supportive and diverse community that is Seattle U GOLD.

You have had many exciting and transformative events occur over the last few years. These experiences have galvanized you with unique skills and perspectives which you will use to lead, build community, and serve others regardless of where you go next. These next few years of your life after graduation will be filled with challenges, exhilaration and growth. We encourage you to embrace and lean into these challenges, and always remember the foundational skills you gained at Seattle U while remembering those who helped you reach this stage in your life. In the spirit of St. Ignatius, now is the time for you to use these new skills to go forth and set the world on fire!

When I graduated from Seattle U, I stayed in the Seattle area and started my professional career at Boeing before quickly returning for a part-time graduate degree. After graduate school, I moved to Amazon, where I am currently working. While I felt fortunate to live and work in a community that meant so much to me, I missed the service and engagement opportunities that I loved as a student at Seattle U. This is when I discovered Seattle U GOLD and got hooked on our incredible alumni community! I hope you will, too.

Now that you’ve finished your last finals and walked across the stage at the incredible Climate Pledge Area, I invite you to connect with Seattle U GOLD. Start by following us on our Facebook and Instagram pages, and consider joining Seattle U’s career and networking platform, Redhawk Landing, a fantastic tool that connects alumni with students for short- and long-term mentorships. Additionally, the Seattle University Alumni Association is hosting SU Night at the Mariners on August 8 at T-Mobile Park. This could be your first official event as an alum, so register now!

On behalf of the Seattle U GOLD Council, congratulations on your achievement and welcome to life as a Redhawk alum!

Sincerely,
John Fulmer, ’15, ’18
