Who We Are

The staff of CDLI consists of people who are passionate about teaching with technology. If you aren't sure where to start, contact CDLI and someone will respond as quickly as we are able. The department is housed in Pigott Pavilion for Student Leadership PAVL 050 directly across the hall from SUperCopy, with the exception of Rick Fehrenbacher whose office is in the Hunthausen building.

Dr. Rick Fehrenbacher is the Director of the Center for Digital Learning and Innovation and the Vice Provost for Academic Technology and Innovation. Prior to joining Seattle University in October of 2012, Dr. Fehrenbacher was a professor of English and Director of Distance and Extended Education at the University of Idaho. Dr. Fehrenbacher received his Ph.D. from Duke University, M.A. from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and a B.A. from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Luke graduated from the University of Washington Bothell with a degree in Cultural Studies where he focused on how emerging technologies shape knowledge production. As both a HASTAC and Carnegie Foundation scholar he is also published in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) where he is interested in engaging the student voice in research. He is also an award winning documentary filmmaker and joined Seattle University in 2008 as a Copyright and Media Access Coordinator. Luke has also served as Adjunct Faculty teaching web development and user experience design.

John Buell has over ten years of experience implementing, managing and troubleshooting learning management systems in university and academic medicine settings. An alumni of Seattle University, John has a Master’s in Adult Education, with a focus on Human Resource Development from the College of Education. John also holds a Master's in Library and Information Science from the University of Washington with a focus on open access and digital archives. Before joining Seattle University, John developed online curricula and training courses at University of Washington Medicine and Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Jayme has been working in the field of instructional design since 2001 when she took a position at Washington State University’s Center for Teaching, Learning, & Technology. She was involved in WSU's ePortfolio initiative, working with faculty to integrate ePortfolios into their teaching. She is an ePortfolio advocate, a reviewer for the International Journal of ePortfolios (IJEP) and was part of the original executive team at AAEEBL. She also has a background in program assessment and consulted with programs across the WSU community to develop and strengthen assessment initiatives in preparation for accreditation. Jayme holds a Master’s of Science in Experimental Psychology from the University of Idaho where her research focused the brain’s ability to process movement.

Eric joined CDLI in 2018 to help develop the fully online programs in the Albers School of Management. He has a background in the sciences with a B.S. in Astronomy and Physics from the University of Washington. He worked as an instructional designer at the University of New Mexico for 15 years where he also received a M.A. in Instructional Technology engaging in research into developing meaning and understanding in online discussions. Eric has taught many courses in instructional technology both online and in person.

Ann holds an MS. Ed and a graduate certificate in E-Learning and Online Teaching from the University of Wisconsin, Stout, as well as a certificate in instructional design from the Online Learning Consortium. During her nine years in instructional design at Bastyr University, Ann focused on developing and implementing online course development standards centered on inclusive, accessible learning design. She also created a series of asynchronous online faculty development workshops exemplifying learning design theory and student-centered teaching best practices. Ann recharges her batteries by gardening, making jewelry, hiking, and hanging out with family, friends, and dogs.

Megan has almost two decades experience working in higher education in various staff roles (including 11 years as staff at Seattle University), and she has experience teaching hybrid courses as an adjunct instructor. After three and a half years as an instructional technologist here in CDLI, Megan is very excited to shift into a new role as an instructional designer. An alum of Seattle University's web development certificate program, Megan also has a BA and MA in cultural anthropology from Western Washington University where her Master's thesis research was on the culture of higher education. Megan is also published in the field of the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Kyle joined CDLI in September 2020 to continue his career in higher education. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Washington State University and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Fiction from the University of Massachusetts—Amherst. His responsibilities as an Instructional Designer include collaborating with University faculty to conceive, develop, and refine their teaching practice in online and hybrid courses. Kyle lives in Seattle and enjoys woodworking, writing fiction, paper books, plastic music, and Oxford commas.

Dominic Williamson

Dominic grew up in London and graduated from Norwich University of the Arts with a degree in Graphic Design. He moved to Seattle in 2000 and began a career in Higher Ed as a graphic designer at Seattle Pacific University. Joining Seattle U in 2023, Dominic brings twenty plus years' experience in pedagogical graphic design. In his spare time, Dominic enjoys working with his hands on a multitude of creative projects along with practicing yoga, paddleboarding, and time with his family (and cats).

Simone enters the Instructional Technologist role with decades of experience involving various technology tools and helping others learn how to use them. Most recently, she was the Information and Instructional Technology Coordinator at the School of Theology and Ministry where she supported the school with data analysis and assisted faculty with learning technologies. An alumna of Seattle University, Simone earned her B.A. with a focus on liberal studies, digital technology and cultures. Her work centers on finding ways to connect technology to cultures and examining how to be human in a digital world.
