Information about disability accommodations for on-campus housing and dining.
You should contact Disability Services as soon as possible if you are requesting accommodations related to housing. Timely notice is needed to coordinate accommodations.

Housing Accommodations
Disability-related housing accommodations are modifications to the residential environment for students whose disabilities substantially limit their ability to participate in residential and housing life. Accommodations are not limited to ones described below. If you request disability-related housing accommodations you'll need to meet with Disability Services and provide documentation that supports your specific request and disability-related needs.
Accommodations for housing are approved on a case-by-case basis and are dependent on the nature of your disability and/or health condition as well as the impact on the campus living environment. Disability Services works in partnership with Housing and Residence Life (HRL) to provide accommodations that meet individual student needs.
If you are approved for a housing-related accommodation, HRL will place you in any available room that can fulfill the accommodation needs. DS does not ask HRL to place you in a particular residence hall building or room as an accommodation.
Need for Quiet Study Space
Single rooms are not granted solely based on a need for quiet study space. Residence halls are designed as living spaces. If you need very quiet environments to study you should seek other places on campus that are designated as quiet study areas.
Emotional Support Animals
Emotional Support Animals (ESAs) include dogs and other animals that provide: passive support that lessens, in full or part, an impact of a person’s disability, allowing them to benefit from Seattle University’s Housing and Residence Life programs and services. An ESA must be approved by DS before it is allowed inside your on-campus residence. ESAs are not permitted in any other campus buildings.
Note: You do not need to request an ESA accommodation with DS if you’re living in Vi Hilbert or the Douglas Apartments.
Service Animal and ESA Guidelines
Steps of the ESA approval process:
- Ask your licensed care provider (doctor, nurse, counselor, etc.) to complete the ESA Request for Information form.
- Submit a DS application and upload the completed form with your application.
- Meet with a DS director to discuss the accommodation request.
- DS will contact you to tell you if the request has been approved, denied, or if DS needs more information.
- If you’re approved for an ESA, you’ll need to submit to DS:
- Vaccination records
- Seattle pet license
- HRL will send you a document of ESA Terms and Conditions for you to review, sign, and return.
- You can bring your animal into your residence.
This form must be submitted before DS will determine your eligibility for an ESA. It needs to be completed by your licensed care provider.
Meal Plan Accommodations
Meal plan accommodations may be available if you have a medically-diagnosed condition with prescribed dietary restrictions that can’t be reasonably accommodated by the meal plan options.
If you request disability-based meal plan accommodations, you'll need to meet with Disability Services and provide documentation that supports your request and disability-related needs. DS will contact you to tell you if the request has been approved, denied, or if DS needs more information.
ESA Request for Information
This form must be submitted before DS will determine your eligibility for an ESA. It needs to be completed by your licensed care provider.
