Laudato Si' Action Platform

In response to Pope Francis’s invitation to higher education institutions, Seattle University's President Peñalver signed a letter of commitment in September 2021 to participate in the Seven-Year Journey Towards Integral Ecology and the Laudato Si’ Action Platform (LSAP). In February 2023, the LSAP Leadership team finalized SU's Laudato Si’ Action Plan, which was updated in 2026 and includes five main priorities that span across campus operations, departments, and partnerships.

The Seattle University Laudato Si' Action Plan, adopted in 2023 and updated in 2026, guides the goals and actions of our work to infuse integral ecology and sustainability across campus, in academic programs, engagement, operations, and investments.

Laudato Si’ Action Platform Commitment

In September 2021, President Peñalver signed on to the Laudato Si' Action Platform (LSAP), in response to Pope Francis’s invitation to higher education institutions. As stated in the foundational goal of Seattle University’s Reigniting Our Strategic Directions 2022-2027, “We will commit to institutional participation in Pope Francis’ Seven-Year Journey Toward Integral Ecology, through the Laudato Si Action Platform and in community with other Catholic universities.”

Laudato Si' Action Plan and Leadership

Inspired by the seven Laudato Si' Action Platform Goals, Seattle University identified five Priorities that will guide the goals and actions of our seven-year journey toward integral ecology.
