The business school is hosting events with a slew of leading voices on a diverse range of topics.
School is back in full swing and there’s no shortage of events happening around campus. The Albers School of Business and Economics in particular has a busy few weeks to end October with several interesting events.
Here’s a sampling:
- Where Esports Meet Business, 5:30–7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 15 | Oberto Commons in Sinegal Center
Join Evil Geniuses CEO Chris DeAppolonio as he talks about the intersection of competitive gaming and business strategy. Evil Geniuses is one of the most storied Esports organizations in North America and this is a rare opportunity to explore the rapidly growing world of esports from a player’s and executive’s perspective. Voter integrity continues to be an important topic as we near another election day and this event offers an excellent chance to hear from Tom Thomas, ’20 LEMBA, CEO of Votegrity, a fast-growing startup building secure, transparent electronic voting systems. Thomas will share how he transformed an idea sparked at Seattle University into a company on the frontlines of election innovation. Join a timely discussion on how disinformation and misinformation shape our society and what we can do to respond. This includes insight by experts, cutting-edge research and strategies for navigating today’s information environment. The event will be moderated by SU Professor of Communications and Media Caitlin Carlson, PhD, and will feature Alethea CEO Lisa Kaplan, Oregon State University Marketing professor Jason Stornelli and Institute for Public Relations CEO Tina McCorkindale. Learn more and RSVP for this event. - Albers Executive Speaker Series featuring Expeditors CEO Dan Wall, 5:30–6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 29 | Pigott Auditorium
Dan Well has gone from a messenger delivering documents on the streets of Seattle in the late 1980s to leading Expeditors, a global logistics company headquartered in Bellevue that has 172 district offices and numerous branch locations on six continents. Wall worked his way up from operational roles to supervisor and management positions, winning several manager and branch awards along the way.
In 2023 he was named President of Global Services, in 2024 he moved to President of Global Geographies and this past April he was elected President and CEO. Wall will share his story, including launching Expeditors’ environmental program and creating Opportunity Knocks, providing paid internships and work study opportunities for youth and young adults, as well as Opportunity Knocks for Veterans, a recruiting program for those who served in the U.S. military.
