Dr. Henry Louie, professor of electrical and computer engineering, was recently awarded funds from the National Science Foundation to lead, with collaborators at Rochester Institute of Technology and Navajo Technical University, a two-day workshop focused on advancing clean energy transitions in Tribal Nations.

The workshop will convene diverse stakeholders from academia, Tribal governments and agencies, federally-funded research and development centers, and energy sector organizations who will work collaboratively to outline a prioritized research agenda and document education and workforce training needs.

The workshop responds to an urgent need to address high levels of energy poverty on Tribal Lands and will make significant inroads to overcoming technical challenges, integrating Indigenous knowledge and values, and understanding the complex socio-technical systems within which clean energy technologies are embedded in Tribal Nations.
