Counselor in Session

Clinical Mental Health Counseling

Our mission-driven Clinical Mental Health Counseling program is offered both online and in-person and is designed to prepare you for licensure in the State of as Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), as well as other approved states. Our program also prepares students for Washington State Substance Use Disorder Certification. With 100-hour practicum and 600-hour internship, you'll gain the confidence and skill necessary to provide both substance abuse and mental health counseling in various community settings, such as youth service agencies, mental health centers, psychiatric hospitals, correctional facilities and private practice.

Couples and Family Therapy

The Couples and Family Therapy program at Seattle University is COAMFTE accredited and is dedicated to strength-based and systemic treatment, trauma informed care, social justice and the formation of resilient clinicians. You'll graduate with preparation for clinical practice as Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy Associates (LMFTA) while working toward full LMFT. In the second year of the program, students begin a 12-month internship providing therapy for families, intimate relationships and individuals. You'll graduate prepared to take the next step toward licensure and pursuing a rewarding career as a licensed marriage and family therapist.

Psychology

Respected throughout the Puget Sound region, Seattle University’s Master of Arts in Psychology (MAP) program brings together research and reflection from across the fields of clinical psychology, philosophy and the humanities to lay a foundation for clinical practice. You'll be prepared for licensure in the State of Washington as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). While most graduates go on to as therapists in community mental health agencies, private or group-based practices and other care settings, some graduates continue onward to doctoral studies in clinical psychology.

School Counseling

Our School Counseling program is offered both online and in-person and is designed to prepare you for Residency level Educational Staff Associate (ESA) Certification in K-12 settings, public and private. You also receive preparation for licensure in the State of as Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), as well as other approved states, and preparation for Washington State Substance Use Disorder Certification. Gain hands-on experience working in schools and graduate with a deep understanding of the academic, career and social/emotional issues impacting K-12 youth.

School Psychology

The School Psychology program has been nationally recognized and approved by the National Association of School Psychologists since 1998. Dedicated to a practitioner-scholar model, the program provides you with a solid grounding in evidence-based practices. You will develop the knowledge, skills and character to be an effective school psychologist in diverse communities. While most school psychologists work in K-12 public schools, graduates can also provide services in private and charter schools, colleges and universities, juvenile justice programs, community-based day treatment or residential clinics and hospitals and more.

Social Work

Our Social Work (MSW) is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education and prepares students to become competent and effective specialized clinical social works. You can choose your path to receive your degree based on the amount of social work education you have. You'll find field placement in diverse settings such as mental health counseling agencies, hospitals, child welfare organizations, senior services, state and local justice systems and community-based programs focusing on children and adolescents, homelessness, immigration, domestic violence and trauma.
