Associates Program Overview
Position Title: (Team/Organization) MBA SEM Associate
Position Type: Part-time (6-9 months)
Compensation: Approximately $15,000 (based on hours and duration)
The MBA in Sport and Entertainment Management program presents an unparalleled opportunity for students to immerse themselves in the dynamic and swiftly evolving sport and entertainment industry. Through the program's partnership initiatives, students can engage in firsthand experiences as MBA SEM Associates, offering them invaluable exposure and practical insights. The application process for this esteemed position is competitive and entails specific qualifications and procedures as outlined below.
- Currently enrolled full-time in the MBA in Sport and Entertainment Management Program as a first-year student, and in good academic standing
- Timely completion of application materials
- Acceptance per process outlined below
To apply for the (Team/Organization) MBA SEM Associate position, students are required to submit the following materials by email to the MBA SEM Director no later than December 15.
- Resume
- Position Statement explaining interest and qualifications as well as any adversity statement concerning personal challenges or disadvantages that the student has overcome in their educational or professional journey.
- Any relevant portfolio or coursework, including unofficial transcript.
- One letter of recommendation from Faculty, Mentor, or Industry Professional.
Selection of students qualified to participate is made by a committee that includes the MBA SEM Director, a faculty member who teaches in the MBA SEM program selected by the Dean of Albers, and a student in the second-year class who is completing or has completed his/her/their Associate position or relevant internship selected by the MBA SEM Director, and two members of the MBA SEM Board of Advisors appointed by the Chair of the Board of Advisors. Successful applicants may then apply for positions offered by the partners in connection with the MBA SEM Associate Program. The hiring process typically spans from January to March, with positions commencing thereafter.
Responsibilities and Expectations
In their capacity as MBA SEM Associates, students will engage closely with seasoned professionals, gaining valuable industry insights and practical experience. Their responsibilities include:
- Brand Ambassadors: Actively represent the MBA SEM program at industry events, promoting its values and fostering its reputation.
- Social Media Engagement: Maintain an active online presence, sharing updates and insights on platforms like Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter to enhance program visibility.
- MBA SEM Associates Board: Collaborate as a member of the MBA SEM Associates Board, providing feedback to program leadership for continuous improvement.
It is expected that each MBA SEM Partner provide one or more (at their discretion) job position descriptions annually. All materials are for the purpose of participating in the MBA SEM Associates Program. Materials should be emailed to the MBA SEM Director no later than February 1 so that position descriptions can be timely shared with students accepted as MBA SEM Associates.
Position description for MBA SEM Associates shall be curated and created for purposes of the MBA SEM Associate program only. These position descriptions shall not be for public competition in the usual course of any partner’s public internship posting.
In addition to hiring an MBA in SEM Associate(s), the program’s partners agree to provide the following:
- Mentorship. Supervisors of MBA SEM Associates will offer guidance and support for the student's professional development through regular check-ins, feedback sessions, and introductions to industry networks.
- Lunches with the Leaders. Partners will organize quarterly lunches, inviting MBA SEM Associates and their supervisors to interact with organizational leaders, who will share insights on relevant industry topics.
- MBA SEM Associate Evaluation. At the conclusion of the term, supervisors will assess the performance of MBA SEM Associates, providing feedback to the program director for continuous improvement.
Through these collaborative efforts, the MBA in Sport and Entertainment Management program strives to equip students with the skills and experiences necessary to excel in the competitive landscape of the sport and entertainment industry.
