Biography
Professor Carlos De Mello e Souza has over 25 years’ experience teaching courses in financial accounting, financial analysis, corporate valuation, and computer-based modeling. He has taught at INSEAD, Penn State, Susquehanna University and Seattle University, and holds an Electrical Engineering degree from Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro, a master’s in production engineering from COPPE-UFRJ, and both an MBA and a Ph.D. from Cornell. Carlos worked as a financial analyst at the National Bank for Economic and Social Development in Brazil and in the controller’s departments of both Esso Brasileira de Petróleo and Souza Cruz (a subsidiary of BAT, plc). Between 1996 and 2000 Carlos served as CFO of a publicly traded independent Coca-Cola bottler in the state of Rio de Janeiro. In 2012-13 he returned as CEO and played a key role in year-long negotiations that concluded with selling the franchise to Coca-Cola FEMSA (KOF-NYSE) for $498 Million. He has published in RAND Journal of Economics, Strategic Finance, Journal of Applied Finance, and Journal of Business Ethics.
